I just started a new project (my first) on Kickstarter! :www.kickstarter.com/projects/5…

It's for issue 3 of my comic Brandi Bare. and if you haven't seen it before (where have you been!?) I've posted the first 12 pages of issue 1 on my blog:
joepekarart.blogspot.com/2013/…

I've also put in rewards for the first 2 issues as well as the 3rd. print and digital verisons. as well as ways to get original art.

See...cute girls
watch...my awkward video!
Read...about the comic
Pledge...if you can

check it out and like/share/whatever to help spread the word.

(If anything's not clear in the description of the project, by all means let me know...since this is my first kickstarter I'm sure I've goofed up somewhere!)

thanks!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything...didn't even realize there was an update to the way you post art here (or is that new?)

posted a couple recent pieces, but most of my stuff just gets posted on my blog lately: joepekarart.blogspot.com/

(there's progress shots of the Joker/Harley piece there). as well as other junk.

Finally got around to this after slacking off for about 6 years or so :). I just wanted some place to post random art (commissions, my processes, sketches, tutorials, etc...) that I never posted here.

also let me know what you think of the design (using blogspot), is it too looking? not enough crap on there? anything I should add?

here's the link: joepekarart.blogspot.com/

anybody watch the xbox presentation at E3? nothing wowed me at all. kind of disappointing actually..they're still pushing that Kinect stuff. bleh. nothing yet has made me want to plug that thing back in ;) (well except for the Skyrim update, but after shouting at the tv for a few minutes I gave up.)

During Free Comic Book Day I was interviewed by the local news in Jacksonville! I was at Gotham City Limits again (they asked me back after being there last year...what were they thinking?).

towards the end of the day the Jax news team showed up for some coverage and since nobody else would talk to them (like :icontonykordos: , who backed away and left me sitting there, what else could I do?). They were actually pretty fun to talk with though. and got some insights into the making of news clips like this.

and in case you were wondering why I don't have a youtube channel, this is why. possibly one of the worst and most awkward interviews and artist could give. but you can see my beard...and my growing bald spot... *sigh* but at the very end you can see the pencils for an upcoming Zenescope cover (and a hawkgirl commission that I haven't mailed out yet...I needed filler for the portfolio.)

I believe the words my wife used were 'yeah, you really shouldn't be on TV...' Thanks for the support dear! :P

oh yeah, and happy mothers day to any moms out there.

Megacon starts tomorrow and i'll be there in artists alley...somewhere. don't know my table number or color section yet. (but i'm on their website!) I'll update tomorrow once i'm at the show if i can.

let's see, 2 years ago someone crashed into my car as we were driving into the parking lot before the show started. last year I missed the show because of my injured back. this year? we'll see, but fingers crossed it turns out ok. so far the only bad news is that fellow artist and table mate Gene Gonzales won't be at the show because he's got too much work to do (not a bad problem to have).

I'll be doing the usual sketches and have some older books (I'm actually way under prepared for the show...been very busy the past couple months so I didn't get any new sketchbooks or comics made) other than that, hopefully i'll see you at the show.

and feel free to chat with me about Skyrim! can't get enough of that game ;)

Took the wife and kids to it earlier today and we all enjoyed it. Lots of fun. I think I liked it as much as the first Iron Man movie (but i was always a big captain america fan...more than Iron Man at least). no spoilers (not that there's much that could be spoiled...it's a pretty straightforward movie). so many things made me smile while watching it. loved that the Howling Commandos got some screen time.

Agent Smith looked awesome as the Red Skull. was totally impressed with the scrawny version of cap too, after a minute or two i totally believed Chris Evans looked like that.  some of the other green screen shots didn't look so hot, but they already sold me on the character(s) so I didn't mind. I'm just glad I got to see a superhero movie and world war 2 movie all wrapped up in one.

saw it in the 2d version...anyone see the 3d? is it worth it?

oh, and like all of the marvel movies, stay til the very end. :) (I'm amazed that the theatre still empties as soon as the credits roll, don't these people realize what they're missing? guess not :))

and I can't understand why it got so much hate. I loved the hell out of it. Girls with guns in fantastic settings...what's not to like? this is the movie my 15 year old self wanted many years ago. thankfully i haven't matured much over the years so i could still enjoy it today. :)

Obviously it was a visuals first, story second kinda movie, and there's nothing wrong with that to me. Now i'm even more disappointed I didn't see it in the theatres. but it's the perfect movie to have on while drawing. (actually all of Zack Snyder's movies work like that for me...perfect background movies. Can't wait to see what he does with Superman)

Looking forward to heading back to the best convention every year. will be doing the usual sketches/paintings. working on finishing up my advance commission list this week...have a couple gals from Firefly that I still need to get painted. Also finishing up my work on a new spiderman game this week...so things have been a bit hectic lately.

while working I've been watching/listening to a lot of L.A. Noire gameplay videos on youtube. A game I would have loved to play, but have nowhere near the free time to dedicate to it.  *sigh*

I'll be at 'Gotham City Limits' in Jacksonville tomorrow for free comic book day, doing sketches and will have prints and sketchbooks available.  I lived in Jacksonville about 11 years ago now (for about a year)...haven't really been back since (except driving past). so it'll be interesting to see the town again.

not sure who else will be there, but :icondangerous-beauty778: works there, so I imagine she'll be doing sketches too.

so go out and get some free comics (and buy other good ones, like *cough* www.indyplanet.com/index.php?i… *cough* ;) also since I'm being so subtle, you can also order my Distraction sketchbook from them here: www.indyplanet.com/index.php?i… or get the digital download: www.indyplanet.com/digital/pro…

:)

hope everyone has a great weekend.

Thanks to all the folks who stopped by the table this past weekend. attendance seemed lower than the last time I was there ('09) but I stayed pretty busy right up til closing on sunday because of commissions. and my suitcase was a lot lighter going home, so I was happy with the turnout :) (especially when the last commission of the day is for a cute girl that was so excited to find me she jumped up and down a few times. There's no way that couldn't bring a smile to anyone's face. )

the only downside was that I forgot my camera so I didn't take any pics of the sketches.  and thanks to :iconjamiefayx: for not only getting that Dazzler commission I posted last week, but for getting another at the show (and spreading the words to a few friends...they kept me happily drawing all weekend)

came home on monday instead of sunday after the show to rest up my back a bit...which made a world of difference. but now I'm behind schedule on other projects, so back to work!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes for my back trouble from the last journal. progress is moving along...painkillers and physical therapy are working wonders...well mostly the painkillers, but for now things are looking up...but holy crap, if you've never had an MRI before, it's pretty much like practice for being dead in a coffin. (I was in a closed machine, like a long cylinder that you're placed in, laying down....and there wasn't too much wiggle room for me...) when i'm dead i hope people poke me with a stick to make sure a few times...because being buried alive has jumped to my least favorite place to be :).

I was laid down on the table and slowly moved into position, had to put my arms over my head and then the guy tells me i have to squirm down a little more. so fine, my head's still poking out the top of the cylinder, but then when everything's all set, the bastard moves me down a little more so my face was looking right up at the top of the machine all that was sticking out were my arms. and god forbid if the guy had a heart attack and died because there was no way i could remove myself from that position (and the machine is so loud, nobody would hear my girly screams).
and the most important thing is to not have an itch by your feet...and then assume it's bugs crawling on you. that won't lead to good thoughts.  and you're in there for a while, (and so helpless) there's a whole bunch of ways to picture yourself being entombed forever...like power outages, nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, and so on...  I don't recommend it.

I'm also going to try and make up for missing Megacon by attending the Pittsburgh Comic Con this weekend. I'm table 08...i think. Hope to see one or two of you there!

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be making it to megacon this weekend due to medical issues (a degenerative disc near the base of my spine...ow). Which makes walking (and pretty much everything non-art related) awfully painful. Thankfully I can still sit and draw...howerver, the painkillers the doc gave me just make me sleepy and dizzy (when they work). not the best way to go to a con :). tomorrow i go for an MRI scan and we'll see where it goes from there. yay! :(

This is the first megacon i'll miss since i started doing the show in 2005. so that kinda sucks. I'll still have my new sketchbooks available tomorrow, I'll probably make another post about that then. sorry if i disappointed anyone, and hope everyone else has a great show!

I'll be at Megacon next weekend, at table Black 12 in Artists Alley.  Hopefully i'll have some new sketchbooks (if they're done in time...fingers crossed :))

I'll have a few new marker pieces and a couple new Grimm Fairy Tales covers that I can't post yet, but I'll have the pencils in my portfolio to show a sneak peek of.

hope to see some of you there.

the NFL playoffs have been great, anyone watching? (Go Steelers!) Can't believe the Jets beat the Patriots. though i secretly wanted the jets to win just so i could listen to more ridiculous stuff their coach :)

anyone playing Black Ops (i'm on xbox)? sadly, i'm totally addicted to the multiplayer. on my 2nd prestige level as i type.
[Tank]joepfury is my player name if you're ever online...(Tank is our dog's name)

i found the greatest way to keep the game fun...just playing with knives and tomahawks on domination games. (260 tomahawk kills and counting...)
my eleven year old plays split screen with me and she's better than me at it. so if you ever see to players running around a map knifing everyone in sight, it's us...father/daughter bonding at it's finest :)

been a bit slack on my DA stuff lately, it's just been a busy end to the year with a few too many projects finishing up at the same time. but i'll be able to post a new cover soon, that's something at least :)

just wanted to wish everyone a swell new year and hope the coming year is good to you (and your family, dogs, cats, etc...). so stay safe out there!

besides me? totally fell for that show. by far the best new show to premiere from this past tv season and it's been cancelled. crap. and i just picked up the show's theme song on itunes the other night.

at least it played out the whole season and had a perfect ending that made me smile (and could've worked as a series ender or just season ender).

the ratings were terrible, so maybe I was the only one watching it ;). but it was such a good show and so well acted. and very well written.

sigh.

and Walking Dead ended last night...enjoyed it for what it was, liked it better than the comic story at least.

thankfully Justified gets it's 2nd season (another terrific show on FX)
