I know everyone's been all excited about Transformers and crap, but this was the summer movie I've been waiting for all year. Heat, Collateral, and Last of the Mohicans get regular play while I'm drawing and painting. And once Public Enemies hits dvd it'll get regular viewings too. I'm just a huge fan of Michael Mann's films. And this one is no exception. A stunningly shot movie. I could go on and on about how gorgeous every shot looked. One shoot-out in a forest, in particular, had this great 'you are there' feeling.

Johnny Depp and Christian Bale were quite good...but I would have went no matter who were playing those parts. This was first and foremost a Michael Mann directed movie. Tons of great character actors are littered thru it all.(especially a couple small parts from some actors from The Wire, another favorite of mine)

Another hallmark of Mann's movies is the music. Always great choices, and this one had some Billie Holiday too, how awesome is that?

I'm still sorta surprised that this is a 'summer movie', but I'll take a great crime movie over a giant robot movie any day. but that's just me

hope everyone has a safe 4th of July...and for cripes sake, if you're going to play with fireworks, hold them in your non-drawing hand!
